Bailey and Peronto Elected to TRS Board

Mark A. Bailey of Palos Park and Frederic S. Peronto of Elmhurst were elected on May 1 by active TRS members to the System’s Board of Trustees, according to preliminary results of the 2017 Trustee election. If certified by the TRS Board this spring, Mr. Peronto and Trustee Bailey will begin their four-year terms on July 15. Trustee Bailey was first elected in 2013. Mr. Peronto has never before served as a TRS trustee. For more information, please see the TRS news release here .

TRS Town Hall Meetings for 2017

TRS Executive Director Dick Ingram held seven Town Hall meetings in January and February across the State of Illinois. More than 2,600 TRS members attended and heard an update about the state of the System and public pensions in Illinois. FY 2018 State Contribution to TRS Set at $4.6 Billion

Decades of state underfunding and weakening investment returns led the Teachers’ Retirement System trustees in December to approve a $4.6 billion state government contribution for fiscal year 2018. TRS Pension Payments Unaffected by State Budget Dispute

The on-going dispute over finalizing the State of Illinois budget for fiscal years 2016 and 2017 will not affect the payment of pensions by TRS. In July of 2015, a Cook County Circuit Court ruled that all TRS pensions and benefits must be paid even without a state budget. For more information, please read the TRS Statement .

TRS changes telephone numbers, email addresses

Teachers’ Retirement System is changing its telephone numbers, email addresses and website address in order to improve service and reduce technology costs.

In July, the TRS website address will change to http://www.trsil.org from the current http://trs.illinois.gov. At the same time, TRS will launch a new website design.

Board Meeting Rescheduled

The meeting originally set for May 18 and 19 has been rescheduled for June 21 and 22, 2017.
