UIndy student-faculty spotlight: sport management

Sport management major Aimee Sickmeier’s decision to transfer to UIndy opened many doors for her, including the ability to work with faculty member Dr. Jennifer VanSickle, as well as internship and volunteer opportunities. Watch the video to hear her story.

Access to health and sports organizations

UIndy partners with some of the most prestigious sporting events in the world, which means you’ll be learning from top professionals in the field. In addition, close proximity to top health resources in the Indianapolis area allows ample opportunity for further practical application beyond the classroom. Solid foundation for graduate studies

Our kinesiology majors and special industry certifications provide you with the essential building blocks for graduate work in occupational or physical therapy, medicine, exercise physiology, sports administration and other related fields. A majority of UIndy students who applied have been accepted into reputable graduate programs.

Distinguished certifications

Exclusive to UIndy, the Healthy Diploma program is designed to help you “go the distance” in your job search by reaching key benchmarks in your own health and fitness levels. This certification demonstrates to potential employers that you’re more likely to achieve performance expectations by being a true role model for an active, healthy lifestyle.

First accredited sport management program in Indiana

UIndy’s sport management programs are the first in Indiana to be accredited by the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation.

I have taken classes that have allowed me to shadow jobs and implement programs…I will be implementing programs at Wishard Hospital and am walking into this internship with so much confidence because I feel very prepared.

Marquone Edmonds

My Honors Project has given me the opportunity to conduct research within my field. Overall, my education in exercise science/pre-med has given me a solid scientific foundation and helped me to gain critical thinking skills.

Valorie Parker

The best thing about UIndy has been the access to professors and the small class sizes. Additionally, the diversity of the educational backgrounds and experiences of some of the professors has been a valuable resource.

Akim Nyormoi

There are so many important things to know when training athletes and UIndy’s exercise science program built my confidence.

Tyler Norton

Class projects in the community health education program gave me real life experiences to apply in the real world such as advocating for Indianapolis bars to become smoke-free, creating a community walking program and assessing needs in the community.
